At first, it looked like Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog’s lower-body injury was a minor ailment. Now, with him having missed several games, the cloud of uncertainty surrounding his situation continues to grow.
“I don’t want to say he’s not day-to-day still,” Avalanche coach Jared Bednar said of Landeskog. “I think, I’m hoping he’s more day-to-day than week-to-week.”
On Wednesday, the Avalanche placed Landeskog on injured reserve, retroactive to Nov. 15, when he last played. As such, they can recall him at any time. In 15 games this season, the 24-year-old has four goals and eight points.
The Avalanche also recalled forwards Gabriel Bourque and Samuel Henley from the San Antonio Rampage on Wednesday, giving them a full roster. Having made the team after attending training camp on a PTO, Bourque went pointless in five games with the Avs prior to being sent down to the Rampage (where he has two goals and five points in 11 games). Having signed with the Avalanche as a free agent in 2014, Henley has yet to play in an NHL game. In 19 games with the Rampage this season, he has one goal and four points.
It remains to be seen if either Bourque or Henley will crack the lineup when the Avalanche take on the Columbus Blue Jackets on Thursday. One person who will be in uniform, however, will be goaltender Semyon Varlamov, who is expected to start having recovered from a minor wrist injury.
The Avalanche made a minor trade with the Blue Jackets on Monday, acquiring defenseman Cody Goloubef in exchange for fellow blueliner Ryan Stanton. The 26-year-old Goloubef, who has 96 games of NHL experience, has been assigned to the Rampage.
