It’s been an up and down season for Denver Broncos rookie Garett Bolles. The Utah product has looked impressive at times, but also has the ‘holding’ bug that bites him in key moments as well.
But as his rookie year finishes up, Bolles says he knows what he has to work on, and he’s ready to put in the work in the offseason to improve. In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, Bolles says he’s still a work in progress — but he knows what he has to work on.
“I feel like I’m only going to get better and better,” Bolles said. “It hasn’t been the perfect season for me, nor did I think it was going to be. I feel like I did a lot better than what people thought I was going to do… I just continue to try get better and listen to people next to me, so when I hit the ground running next year, everything can slow down and I can be prepared for everything that’s going to come up.”
Regarding the possibility that he could switch to right tackle if the Broncos acquired another starter on the offensive line, Bolles sounded hesitant, but cooperative. “Right-side tackle is completely different, the way you move your feet, the way you bend. I’ve never done it before,” Bolles said. “[But] if that’s what they want me to do, they can [ask].”
That said, Bolles intends on staying right where he is — as the Broncos’ starting left tackle. “I promise you where I’m at right now is where they’re going to keep me. That’s just what I feel comfortable with, [even] as you guys say things and things get posted [on the Internet], and fans open up their mouths. It’s just something you got to [let] roll off your skin. I have not played the best, but guess what? I’m a rookie; I’ve just been in this league for seventeen weeks, so if you think that a person can just jump in there and get the job done right away, yeah… but you can ask anyone out here: I’ve out-kicked my coverage in a lot of things and I’m only going to get better. My upside is high.”
