The Cleveland Browns made one of the first major stunning moves in the NFL Draft on Thursday night, selecting cornerback Denzel Ward over Bradley Chubb, opening the door for Denver to take the fine pass rusher out of N.C. State.
Many consider Chubb to be a top-three player in the draft and the best defensive player to be selected. The Mile High Sports radio team was asked about the Broncos’ selection: did they like it? Love it? Or… hate it.
David Hurlbut – Host of The Morning Huddle. Weekdays 6-7am
I like it. You can’t bash this pick at all. Excellent college player who could have a very high ceiling, especially playing and learning from someone like Von Miller. There is no downside to this pick at all, but when the best offensive line prospect since Zack Martin was available for the taking to finally solidify a problem the Broncos have had for years, I believe Nelson was the best pick.
Nate Lundy – Co-Host of Mornings at 5280. Weekdays 7-9am
Love it. A pick in the top five needs to contribute to your team immediately. The choice of Chubb provides Denver with someone who can do that. Like any rookie, he’ll have a learning curve and parts of his game that need work to translate to the next level, but he’ll see the field while he learns and that’s a big plus.
Shawn Drotar – Co-Host of Mornings at 5280. Weekdays 7-9am
What’s not to love? The best defensive player in the draft lands in your lap — and it’s at a position that needs a clear starter, to boot? This was a no-brainer. We know Von Miller loves the pick; Broncos fans should, too.
Benny Bash – Co-Host of Morning Mayhem. Weekdays 9-11am
Can’t complain about a stud pass rusher. Unless you needed a future franchise QB… then you could possibly complain.
Kent Erickson – Co-Host of The Joe Williams Show. Weekdays 1-2pm
I like it, but I don’t love it. Got an outstanding football player, but because Josh Allen could’ve been a Bronco, I just like it. However, as Elway stated in his post first-round draft press conference, he was ‘most likely’ to trade the pick if Chubb wasn’t there — glad they dodged that bullet.
Joe Williams – Co-Host of The Joe Williams Show. Weekdays 1-2pm
The Browns took the wrong guy!!!
Sean Walsh – Co-host of Walsh and Notaro. Weekdays 2-4pm
Love it! Elway saw an opportunity when Chubb fell in his lap and kicked the can on a possible Buffalo trade. Chubb is arguably the best player in the draft and Denver’s pass rush is going to be very good.
Les Shapiro – Co-Host of Afternoon Drive with Goodman and Shapiro. Weekdays 4-6pm
I like it. I’m not going to gush until I see him play. On tape and in person, he looks the part, but you never know until they step on the field and learn to deal with life as a pro player. Remember when Emmanuel Mudiay “fell” to the Nuggets in the first round? Everybody was delirious… and then his career happened. Like the pick. Reserving judgment.
Ronnie K – Producer of Afternoon Drive with Goodman and Shapiro. Weekdays 4-6pm
It’s the safe pick. That said, another year wondering who the franchise quarterback is and where they will find him is nauseating and I hope this is a priority remaining in this draft. However, a deadly pass rush is a fine consolation and it was a very solid pick.
Darren Copeland – Co-Host of Home Grown Sports. Tuesday through Thursdays 10-12pm
Love it! The defense is going getting ridiculous again.
David Johnson – Co-Host of Sports Destiny Radio. Saturday afternoon 1-3pm
I love the pick. This gives them another legit pass rusher paired next to Von Miller to destroy opposing quarterbacks. the Broncos now have their Ingram and Bosa combo like the Los Angeles Chargers have, and that will strike fear in the opposition on any week.
Saif Khan – Co-Host of The Wheelhouse. Sundays 8-10am.
I love it. As much as I would’ve liked to see Saquon Barkley running the ball for the Broncos. I think Denver got a steal in Bradley Chubb at No. 5.
A fearsome pass rush Denver is going to bring in every game with Von Miller and Chubb will be deadly. Chubb is a great addition.
Logan Hessilius – Producer at Mile High Sports Radio.
I absolutely love Bradley Chubb in Denver. Not only does he bring an instant impact to the Broncos, but another fearing defensive end to complement Von Miller.
