There are still two races to go before the title-eligible field is cut to eight drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup, but Kurt Hansen of “Race Central” likes Martin Truex Jr.’s chances of advancing.
“They just need two solid finishes,” Hansen said of Truex’s team, Furniture Row Racing. “Two top-10’s, they’re in. If they finish top-5 this weekend, even top-8, they’re in.”
Truex sits at third place heading into the second race of the Contender Round taking place this weekend at Kansas Speedway.
At the same time, Hansen notes that Truex’s restarts have been “somewhat erratic,” and he’s less confident in Truex’s overall championship prospects.
“It’d be exciting if they won the championship, but it’s almost impossible with a one-car team,” Hansen explained. “Especially at this point, nobody will help you. It’s blood time. That’s why they need a second car.”
