The Colorado Avalanche dropped the final game of a four-game road trip, 5-2, to the Florida Panthers and now have to wait until Friday before they can right their wrongs.
Blake Comeau put Colorado ahead 1-0 in the first period with his redirect of a Tyson Barrie blast. In the second period the Avs surrendered a power play goal – their seventh on the year. Shane Harper’s first NHL goal would put the Panthers up heading into the second intermission.
The flood gates opened in the third where Semyon Varlamov surrendered three more goals, including a second by Harper and two in less than a minute. Matt Duchene picked up his third goal of the season to halve the score early in the third, but Florida tacked on another just over a minute later to put the game out of reach.
Colorado does not play again until Friday when they host Winnipeg.
