The Broncos selected a wide receiver for the second time in the 2017 NFL Draft when they selected Georgia wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie in the fifth round. He is yet another kick return specialist, joining recent third-round picks Carlos Henderson and Brendan Langley as potential kick returners.
The Broncos traded up three spots to select McKenzie. The traded their 175th and 238th overall picks to Green Bay in order to jump up to the 172nd pick.
During his three years at Georgia, McKenzie was a weapon in the passing game as well as the rushing game. In his senior season, he caught 44 passes for 633 yards and two touchdowns. He added two rushing touchdowns to his numbers as well as 134 rushing yards.
The pick continues John Elway’s quest to solve two problems: finding a kick returner and finding a reliable third receiver. McKenzie will compete with Henderson, Jordan Taylor, Bennie Fowler and Kalif Raymond, among others, for playing time at the wide receiver position.
