After scoring 13 goals in the first three games of their second-round ECHL playoff series with the Allen Americans, the Colorado Eagles have mustered just one goal in the last two games. A 4-0 Americans victory at Budweiser Events Center on Sunday moves the series back to Texas, where the Eagles skated to victory in the first two games of the series.

Riley Gill earned his second shutout of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs; he held Utah scoreless in the deciding Game 5 of that series. He was just as good in this Game 5, making 35 saves in the win. Chad Costello tallied a goal and an assist for Allen, and Tyler Barnes scored on an Eagles turnover early in the third period to put Colorado on their heels.

Lukas Hafner kept Colorado in it up to that point, allowing just one goal through two periods, but Colorado could not solve Gill for the second game in a row. They managed to score only once in Thursday night’s Game 4. Offense was the name of the game for the Eagles in their first-round series, scoring 16 goals in the final three games against Idaho, and again in the first three games against Allen with those 13 goals.

The series now moves back to the Allen Event Center for Game 6, and potentially Game 7 if necessary. The winner of the series will advance to play the Toledo Walleye, who defeated the Fort Wayne Komets four games to one in their second-round series.
