Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning has faced plenty of criticism so far in 2015 — and the season is only 10 days old.
Around this time last week Manning had to remind everyone of a crucial detail about the Broncos, they hadn’t lost a game (and still haven’t). Then, he played doctor with the media, showing his lighter side later in the week after a surly Sunday night presser immediately following the win against the Ravens.
Today, Manning was facing the press again and even though he’s 2-0 after throwing three touchdown passes last week in Kansas City, the Sheriff once again faced a “tough” line of questioning.
But Manning wasn’t phased. He doesn’t get motivated by the outside noise, but rather by the 52 guys around him, at least that’s what he says. In his words, here’s Peyton Manning discussing what pumps him up (bold is not Manning, simply for context).
On if he is motivated to quiet critics in this week’s game
“I’m not. Like I said, I’m motivated because I want to do my job to help my team win. That’s plenty for me. That’s what always keeps you going, keeps you driven to work in the offseason and prepare hard in season and to play as hard as you possibly can.”
On if he is surprised by the noise surrounding the team
“Not much surprises me anymore. I would say no.”
Well, that just about sums it up.
Manning doesn’t care what you or I say or write — or so he claims.
It’s a good attitude to have publicly, but one has to wonder, is it really true?
