Veteran sportscaster Irv Brown, the longtime voice of the Denver Nuggets and now heard every weekday on Mile High Sports AM 1340, is the first-ever inductee to the Colorado Jewish Sports Hall of Fame. Brown was honored at a ceremony featuring Denver Broncos general manager John Elway.
Brown earned seven letters at Denver North High School, where he starred in football, basketball and baseball. He played basketball and baseball at the University of Northern Colorado. After college, he coached football and baseball at Arvada High School, and he also coached baseball at the University of Colorado and Metro State College. From 1969 to 1977, Brown had a successful career as a basketball referee, officiating six Final Fours. Brown served as commissioner of the Colorado Athletic Conference in the early 1990s. Brown’s broadcasting career began more than 40 years ago and continues today.
In addition to being a member of the Colorado Jewish Sports Hall of Fame at the Robert E. Loup Jewish Community Center, Brown is also a member of the Colorado Sports Hall of Fame, having been inducted in 1997.
