Jhabvala: Broncos still pursuing right tackle, tight end in free agency

After signing quarterback Case Keenum and trading away Pro Bowl cornerback Aqib Talib, John Elway and the Denver Broncos have roughly $26 million left under the NFL’s salary cap to shop the free-agent market with — but there aren’t many obvious, big money targets to pursue.

In an interview with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7, The Denver Post’s Nicki Jhabvala pointed out that the Broncos still have needs to fill, even if that $26 million isn’t likely to net them any superstars.

“They’re going to get a tackle and a tight end,” Jhabvala said. “They lost Virgil Green in free agency to the Chargers, and they’ve got to figure out something with the right side of their line… they’ve got to have a clear starter.”

After wide receiver — and former second-round pick — Cody Latimer signed with the New York Giants, depth at that position is needed, as well. “They’ve also got to do something about receiver,” Jhabvala said. “You could bring back Eric Decker for a year; let him finish out his career as a Bronco.”

Jhabvala noted that the money may not necessarily go to free agents alone. “There’s nothing that says they can’t trade; they have tons of picks now,” Jhabvala suggested. “They could certainly do something — but they’ve got to have a great draft.”
