John Elway is a pro at remaining noncommittal. During a press conference at the NFL Scouting Combine on Wednesday, Elway remained open to bringing a quarterback in free agency, while also reiterating that the Broncos are happy with Paxton Lynch and Trevor Siemian.
Regarding signing a veteran quarterback in free agency, Elway deflected masterfully, which is sure to fuel the fire that is the delicate Tony Romo speculation.
“We’re open to anything,” Elway said. “We’ll always look at it. This is a time of year that you look at everything, and you try to discuss everything, every possibility, what might be available, what might not be available and talk about that.”
Elway also circled back and praised the two young quarterbacks in Denver who undoubtedly are listening to the incessant banter about the Denver quarterback competition and their futures in the organization.
“We’ve got two young ones that we’re happy with, that we think can be very good football players in this league,” he said. “When you start talking about another veteran quarterback you don’t just talk about next year, we talk about the impact that has two, three, four years down the line.”
The big news here is that Elway definitely left the door open to signing Romo. Yes, he took some time to add that the Broncos are happy with Lynch and Siemian, but he admitted that the Broncos are open to adding a veteran quarterback if he thinks it suits the team. Free agency begins March 9, stay tuned to see how the story unfolds.
