John Elway: ‘I think we had a great offseason’

Denver Broncos General Manager John Elway is optimistic about the upcoming 2018 season, including the new additions to the roster and coaching staff.

Elway spoke to the media Friday about the where the team currently stands the day before training camp and what fans can expect from the revamped roster and coaching staff.

The Broncos made a lot of changes to their roster this offseason, and with that comes a new style of play and optimism from the front office.

“I think we had a great offseason,” said Elway. “I think the people that we added through the draft will help us. We have some better depth. I think Case [Keenum] is a big part of that and the veteran leadership that we needed at that position. Now obviously we have to all come together…especially on the offensive side.”

Case Keenum was signed to a two-year, $36 million contract during the offseason and Elway is excited to have him in their quarterback room.

“Offensively I’m excited about us,” Elway continued. “Especially with Case pulling the trigger and where we are there. We had a good offseason but obviously, we have got to pull it together in the regular season and training camp.”

Elway mentioned that the secondary is still in good hands even with the departure of All-Pro cornerback Aqib Talib.

“I think Roby’s ready to step up and be a starter at corner,” said Elway. “Tramaine Brock will come in and be the third right now. We have got some good competition at the corners. It’s an opportunity for us defensively to get better. We have got the ability to get better there.”

Vance Joseph is going into his second season as head coach of the Broncos and Elway explains that the experiences from last year are only going to make him a better head coach.

“Vance is going to take the reigns and I think that with that year under his belt and his experience that he’s had before that, I’ve got full confidence that he’ll take ahold of those reigns and know that it’s his show,” Elway explained.
