With spring training coming to a close and opening day right around the corner, the time came for Colorado Rockies manager, Walt Weiss, to name the team’s starting pitcher for opening day.
According to Nick Groke of The Denver Post Walter Weiss announced that left handed pitcher Jorge De La Rosa will start opening day for the Rockies.
The Rockies were the last team in the National League West to announce their opening day starter.
“We’re just going with our guy,” Weiss said. “He’s been our guy for a long time now.”
De La Rosa, the club’s all-time wins leader, will get the nod a year removed from his previous opening day start in 2014.
De La Rosa, 34, has lifetime 4.55 era and is 78-52 in his time in Colorado.
Jorge will get the nod against the new-look Arizona Diamondbacks, who will be starting newcomer Zack Greinke.
De La Rosa has struggled against the Diamondbacks in his career, owning a record of 1-7 with an era of 4.22.
