Phillip Lindsay has had as strong of a start to his NFL career as any undrafted free agent. He has impressed his teammates, coaching staff, the Broncos organization, and the rest NFL all within two short weeks.
Lindsay, who is coming off of back-to-back games as the Broncos best option at running back, has been in the running for Rookie of the Week in his first two weeks as a professional and is also a nominee for the FedEx Ground Player of the Week after rushing for 107 yards on just 14 carries in the Broncos win over the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.
Lindsay has taken the National Football League by storm, but there is one person who’s word carries more gravity than any other. He just happens to be Ring of Fame honoree and the man who allowed Lindsay to wear his No. 30 — Terrell Davis.
After Lindsay became the first undrafted player in NFL history to have 100-or-more yards from scrimmage in his first two career NFL games, Davis took to twitter to continue heaping praise upon the Aurora, Colorado native.
#30 … 1st undrafted player in NFL HISTORY with 100+ scrimmage yards in each of his first career games. @Broncos | @cubuffs |@nflnetwork I #VictoryMonday #BroncosCountry https://t.co/MIhI84OYlr

The mutual adoration between Lindsay and Davis is cathartic in some ways. Davis is arguably the best running back in Broncos’ history and Denver has been searching for a player to attempt to fill his shoes for years. Seeing Davis allow Lindsay — the hometown talent who went to West High School in Denver before attending the University of Colorado — to wear his infamous No. 30 is a ‘passing of the torch’ gesture.
Lindsay is still just beginning his journey as a NFL running back, but one thing is already factual — Lindsay’s relationship with Davis can only help the Broncos and Lindsay in the long run.
