LISTEN: Mike MacIntyre hangs up mid-interview after becoming upset with questioning

Mike MacIntyre

Following a season in which Mike MacIntyre swept nearly every national coach of the year award, resurrected the Colorado Buffaloes program from the dead and became a household face, it should be no surprise that his name popped up in connection with several high-profile coaching vacancies across the country.

MacIntyre didn’t end up taking any formal meetings or (obviously) accepting any jobs, but that hasn’t stopped the questioning.

On Thursday, MacIntyre appeared on Outkick The Coverage with Clay Travis, who broached the subject on air, asking what it felt like to be such a hot topic within coaching circles.

“Well, I grew up in it, as a coach’s son,” MacIntyre said. “When my dad turned around Vanderbilt and turned around UT Martin, when we were first there, everybody said he couldn’t do it and wanted to fire him. When he started winning, everybody said he was going to be leaving. So, I grew up with it as a kid, living it every day at school. So as a coach, you’re either going to be fired or your leaving. It’s all media, it’s all driven, everybody has to have a story … If it’s put on Twitter, it’s real, right?”

Travis then pressed MacIntyre, asking if he or his agent had received any calls about coaching vacancies. MacIntyre responded, “I have no comment on any of that,” but Travis wouldn’t accept that answer.

“So that means yes,” Travis said.

“No, I have no comment,” MacIntyre replied. “I really didn’t want to get into all this.”

Coach MacIntyre then thanked Travis and hung up the phone.

And according to Travis, the Colorado Buffaloes long-time sports information director, David Plati, then reached out to Travis’ booker.

Neither MacIntyre nor Plati have responded publicly to the interview yet. We’ll update as more information becomes available.

You can listen to the full interview below. The incident occurs at the 102:40 mark.
