The Colorado Mammoth announced on Wednesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Callum Crawford. Crawford was the most-prized unrestricted free agent on the market this offseason and he is now headed to Denver.
Crawford signed a three-year contract with the Mammoth, according to a release from the club. Throughout his 10-year career, Crawford has contributed 208 goals and 368 assists in 135 career games. Furthermore, Crawford posted 70-plus points in five straight seasons before injuries limited him to just 12 games in 2015.
Crawford is joining the Mammoth after leaving the Minnesota Swarm where he had played since 2010. Crawford is leaving the Swarm as the franchise’s all-time leader in goals (142), assists (282), and points (424).
“Our offense just got a lot better,” said Mammoth president & general manager Steve Govett. “Callum has been one of the most dominant righties in the National Lacrosse League for years, and we expect him to bring out the best in his teammates.”
The 30-year-old Crawford is excited about the opportunity that lies ahead.
“As a player who’s been in the league for as long as I have,” Crawford said, “since I’ve come in, I’ve heard nothing but incredible things from players about how amazing it is to be a member of the Mammoth. I truly believe this team can win. I want to win a championship. I hope I can be a piece that helps this team win a championship.”
For a player of Crawford’s ability who has posted two years of 90-plus points in his career, will hopefully be an integral piece that leads the Mammoth to their first championship since 2006.
In related news, the Mammoth announced the signing of defenseman Mat Macleod on a one-year deal, returning to the team after a one-year hiatus. Colorado also signed free agents Zak Boychuk (goaltender) and Taylor Northway (defense) to one-year contracts.
