Congratulations to Ryan Deakin, a senior wrestler at Legacy High School, for receiving 1,723 votes out of a total 3,387 and being named the ASPIRE Athlete of the Week for Week 21!
Ryan has been a staple of Colorado’s wrestling elite during his four years of high school. His current records at Legacy include having the best winning percentage, best four-year record, most career wins, most career pins, most season wins and most season pins. Ryan was named to the All-American first team and is currently ranked ninth in the country.
“As an athlete, Ryan has broken many records at Legacy High School,” stated Legacy wrestling coach Michael Thompson. “His high school wrestling record is 177-14 over his four years. (He) finished third at state as a freshman, was the undefeated state champion as a sophomore, placed second at state as a junior and won the state championship again as a senior.”
Ryan’s accomplishments in the classroom are equally impressive. He currently carries a 4.0 GPA and was selected to the Honor Roll all four years of high school. As captain of the wrestling team, he is a conscious leader who is constantly seeking to lift others up, including assisting with the youth program that he volunteers at after school and making it a point to help his teammates both with classroom work and athletic performance.
“Ryan encourages others to get involved,” Coach Thompson explained. “This year, he took it upon himself to get one of the students in the Special Education Program to get involved with the wrestling team and become a manager.”
Congratulations again to Ryan Deakin for being named the ASPIRE Athlete of the Week for Week 21! ASPIRE Sports Drinks are now available at all Target, Safeway and Whole Foods locations.
