Congratulations to Jody Gallagher, a sophomore volleyball player at Holy Family High School, for receiving 1,267 votes out of a total 2,574 and being named the ASPIRE Athlete of the Week for Week 8!
Gallagher, a middle blocker for the Tigers, led the volleyball team through the regular season and helped secure Holy Family’s first league championship since moving up to 4A. During a key match against a higher-ranked team from Longmont High School, Jody contributed 11 kills and nine blocks to help force the upset.
“Jody is the kind of player who makes others better through solid play and as an amazing encourager,” states Holy Family’s assistant volleyball coach, Kevin Skeens.
Off the court, Jody is an active participant with the Big Sister/Little Sister program at Holy Family, volunteers for Kids Against Hunger and works with senior citizens at the Brookdale Center. Jody’s hard work in the community has not gone unnoticed and she was a recent recipient of Holy Family’s Student Sportsmanship Award, which recognizes players who exhibit positive leadership qualities both on and off of the court.
“Her blocking at the net and powerful kills create an intimidating presence on offense and defense. More importantly, her leadership both on and off of the court are what makes Jody an awesome teammate!” concludes Coach Skeens.
Jody’s interview will air Sunday morning on the Mile High Sports Show (7a-9a) on FM 104.3 The Fan, but we’ve also got a sneak peek below.
