The Denver Broncos grinded out a gritty win this past Sunday against the New York Jets. But during the game, running back Tyler Badie suffered a concerning injury.

Late in the fourth quarter, Badie took a big hit from Jets linebacker Quincy Williams. The hit caused Badie to fumble the ball, and his body twisted where he was unable to catch his own weight going down. His head and neck would hit the turf hard. Badie would get up and walk to the sideline holding his back. Once he was off the field, cameras captured Broncos trainers surrounding Badie who had collapsed on the sideline. Broncos trainers would load Badie onto a backboard and stabilize his neck and head. He would be carted off the field.

Badie’s parents were in attendance for the game at Metlife Stadium. Badie’s mother, Tanjala T. Gipson, is a board-certified and residency-trained neurologist. Following her son’s injury, Gipson would share an update on social media, as well as thank fans for the outpouring of support the family has received.

“This photo was taken just before today’s game. God was good then, and God is good now. We may not know what the future holds, but we know Who holds the future. Thank you so very much for your prayers for our son Tyler Badie,” wrote Gipson.

Tyler Badie injury update

Following the scary incident on Sunday, it was reported that Badie had full movement in all extremities. That same day, Badie would not take the team flight back, but did rejoin the team in Denver after taking a separate flight.

Since the injury, Badie has not been seen practicing with the team for their upcoming game against the Las Vegas Raiders. Broncos head coach Sean Payton would provide an additional update following practice.

“We’re still evaluating him now. He’s doing better,” said Payton. “Everyone that’s reached out, we appreciate the concerns. Fortunately, he was able to come back before the day ended.”

Fellow Broncos running back Jaleel McLaughlin said that Badie is in good spirits.

“I reached out to him and it’s just a blessing that he’s in great spirits,” said McLaughlin “That has nothing to do with football. He’s in great spirits and that’s what I’m most happy about. I can’t wait to get him back.”

According to NFL Insider Ian Rapoport, Badie’s back injury could land him on IR. Should Badie be designated to IR, he will miss a minimum of four games. As of Wednesday afternoon, the decision has not been made as to how much time he will miss.
