On Tuesday the Denver Broncos released veteran punter Britton Colquitt in favor of rookie Riley Dixon in what was clearly a cost-saving move for the organization. Nate Lundy and Shawn Drotar of 5280 Sports Network discuss the move and its implications.
Drotar isn’t so concerned with the punting aspect of Dixon’s game; he’s worried about the effect it could have on Brandon McManus’ field goals and extra points. Colquitt, in addition to handling the punting duties, is the only holder McManus has known during his time in Denver.
Colquitt joined Afternoon Drive with Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro on Tuesday afternoon, just hours after he had been cut from the team. The veteran shared some exclusive insight into the negotiation process and talked about the specific dollars the Broncos were offering.
