In a Good Morning Football segment where each of the hosts listed the player they thought was going to, ‘go through the roof in 2020’ Nate Burleson chose to heap praise onto Broncos wide receiver Courtland Sutton.
“This dude [Sutton] is an absolute beast. I know you’re saying, ‘well Nate, he kinda broke out last year,’ but it’s different now guys,” Burleson said. “They got rid of Emmanuel Sanders, and all of a sudden, he’s the number one guy.”
Sutton took on that top receiver role in the second half of last season and thrived in it, despite facing double teams almost constantly.
“You know what else I love,” Burleson asked. “They went and addressed the wide receivers in the draft, with Jerry Jeudy and K.J. Hamler, and the guys they already had on the roster, which means his job will be even easier.
“There was a moment in time where Courtland Sutton was holding it down by himself because there was inconsistency around him,” Burleson continued. “Now you add guys who can make plays, defenses have to play this team more honest, you add Melvin Gordon. I’m telling you guys, this dude is going to take over. I might just start calling him ‘Courtland all of a Sutton is an All-Pro’ because he has that type of capability. He could put up 1,500 yards, 12 touchdowns.”
Arguably more exciting than Burleson’s praise for Sutton, was what he claimed Von Miller had to say about Noah Fant on a recent phone call.
“I had a conversation with Von Miller on Friday,” Burleson said. “I’m complimenting this offense, I was talking about the wide receivers, I’m talking about the playmakers on the offensive side of the ball and he cut me off and said, ‘Don’t sleep on Noah Fant. You hear me, Nate?’ And he looked at me seriously and said, ‘This dude is an absolute beast. I mean, a monster.”
If Sutton can become the wide receiver Burleson is projecting him to be, and Fant can be the tight end that Von Miller is seeing in practice, the Broncos offense could be incredibly potent this season.
