It has been quite the season for the Denver Broncos. There have been some extreme highs, like the comeback victories over New England and Cincinnati, and there have been some agonizing lows, like the second half collapses to Oakland and Pittsburgh.
But after all that, after all Denver has been through, they will enter their Week 17 matchup versus the San Diego Chargers as the No. 1 seed in the AFC.
Of course, they still have to take care of business — a loss could actually drop the Broncos to the fifth seed — but if they win, they’ll be spending the postseason at home.
Two weeks ago, this looked like the longest of long shots; not only did the Broncos have to win out, but the New England Patriots would have to fall to both the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins in consecutive weeks. To the joy of everyone in Denver, that’s exactly what happened.
As the AFC’s top seed, the Broncos would get a bye next weekend during the Wild Card Round and face the lowest seed remaining following the postseason’s first set of games.
All that said, nothing’s been locked up yet. There are still two things that have to be done: (1) The Broncos have to beat the Chargers, and (2) the fans have to start knocking on as much wood as possible; we can’t jinx this one!
