While everybody in Broncos Country seems on edge about Nik Bonitto not having a contract extension yet, the emerging star pass rusher doesn’t seem worried one bit as talks with the Denver Broncos are going well.

Denver Broncos’ Nik Bonitto opens up about contract talks

Contract talks can always be tricky, especially when the market for certain positions can change in an instant.

That’s not something that worries Broncos’ emerging star pass rusher Nik Bonitto, who believes that an extension with the team will come as talks have gone well.

“They’re going well,” Bonitto said. “I feel like there’s been good communication on both sides. My agent, I feel like he’s one of the best in the game. I feel like I’ve got to trust what he’s doing, and knowing how they feel about me upstairs — I feel like something will get done, but it’s just a matter of when. Until then, I’ve just got to keep doing me.”

Bonitto returned to practice on Tuesday after missing last week after having a minimally invasive procedure to remove a bone spur/calcium deposit on top of his foot. He was a full participant in individual period and team period defensively.

Even while the Broncos were working to extend Courtland Sutton and Zach Allen, Bonitto noted that the team has been in communication with him throughout the process about how much of a priority he is and how much they want to extend him and want him in Denver.

While Bonitto and the Broncos would very much like to get a deal done before the start of the regular season, these discussions take time, and framework, incentives, and guaranteed money are typically things that take the most time to iron out.

What matters most is that Bonitto wants to stay in Denver, and the team wants him here for the long haul.

As Nik said, it’s only a matter of when.
