Note to the Rockies: It’s not the altitude

So, the Rockies now plan to raise the height of the outfield walls to combat the mile high altitude.

Unbelievable!

After hearing multiple Rox coaches and management types say at RockiesFest that they were going to stop focusing on the altitude and instead look at their home park as an opportunity for a great home field advantage, they continue fretting about their home park — even though three other MLB parks had more home runs hit last year.

The definition of insanity is thinking and doing the same things over and over again and hoping for different results. Worrying about the altitude, blaming it for the crap pitching, trying to change Coors Field into Dodgers Stadium is all insane!

Damn it! Embrace Coors Field and the altitude. Build your club to maximize the home-field advantage. Remember your pitchers were last in road ERA too!

There’s no hope for the Rockies until ownership and a new GM say, “We will NEVER, and I mean NEVER use altitude as an excuse for poor play. In fact, we will ALWAYS, and I mean ALWAYS, use Coors Field and the altitude as the great advantage it provides us.”

Charlie Blackmon nailed it when he said the cheap-ass chainlink fence they’re going to put up in right center field will deaden balls and occasionally send them in unpredictable directions. He thinks it could lead to more triples, as it will take longer to retrieve the balls off the fence. So, the crack analytics staff on Blake Street says the new fences might drop home runs by five percent (Note to crack staff: That means Rockies homers drop by five percent too) but didn’t factor in that triples will go up?!

I don’t recall the Denver Bears/Zephyrs raising fences at Bears/Mile High Stadium … oh yeah, they were too busy winning Pacific Coast League and American Association titles to worry about the height of the damn fences!!

I was just starting to get some hope again for the Rockies due to their strong farm system and hearing coaches and management say they were done using altitude as an excuse and now this. This franchise is hopeless without a complete attitude overhaul when it comes to the A word: Altitude.

Beautiful Coors Field will really be enhanced by a chainlink fence in right-center field (even if it’s painted a gorgeous shade of green), won’t it? The bullpen guys will now be looking through holes in the fence, I presume.

The whole thing is stupid and bush league.

Note to Dick Montfort and Jeff Bridich: It’s NOT the altitude, stupid!
