The Denver Outlaws (8-3) dropped an 18-12 decision to the Rochester Rattlers (6-6) after rallying to within one goal at the end of the third quarter on Thursday. Thursday’s loss marked Denver’s first road loss of the season in six attempts.
Midfielder Drew Snider (four goals) and attackman Eric Law (two goals, two assists) paced the Outlaws with four points. Midfielder Zach Currier (one goal, two assists) and attackmen Ryan Ambler (one goal, two assists) and Wes Berg (two goals, one assist) each recorded three points.
Defender Mike Simon’s five groundballs led all Outlaws while goalie Jack Kelly recorded 14 saves.
The Outlaws held a 5-3 lead early in the second quarter, but Rochester rattled off six consecutive goals to seize all momentum going in to the halftime break. The Outlaws came within striking distance by the end of the third quarter, but a subsequent 6-1 Rattler’s fourth-quarter run provided the final margin.
Denver will be back in action on Sunday as they take on the Ohio Machine at Sports Authority Field at Mile High (6 p.m. MDT faceoff). The Outlaws need just one win in their final three games to clinch a playoff spot.
