Every NFL player on every NFL team dreams about visiting the White House. Alright, not every player dreams about the White House, but they dream about what the White House visit entails: you just won the Super Bowl.
Safeties Darian Stewart and T.J. Ward were just two of the Broncos that got to experience their own White House visit in 2016 after winning Super Bowl 50, but don’t bother them with questions about the New England Patriots’ visit to the iconic presidential residence.
“I heard Tom Brady is not going,” Ward said. “That is as much as I’ve heard about that. I’m not worried about their White House tour. I’m trying to get back.”
As is Stewart. Both players spoke on Wednesday about the differences between an offseason after winning the Super Bowl and an offseason after a less-than-stellar non-playoff year.
“The White House visit was special,” Stewart said. “It was a special time just to meet the president. We’re ready to get back there and just back to the championship. That’s our mindset every year.”
For Ward, there’s only one thing to do during the offseason when your team doesn’t win the big game: go to a dark place and get to work.
““I would definitely prefer to be at the White House, but you know, when you don’t go to the White House, you have to go to the dungeon,” Ward said. “Until we’re back at the White House, I’ll be in the dungeon.”
In a little more than a week, Ward will have some new teammates that can join him in his offseason dungeon. The Broncos select 20th in NFL draft that begins on Thursday, April 27.
