With their latest mock draft, the analysts at Pro Football Focus decided to expand it to two rounds, and as a result, the Broncos came away with a pretty sweet hypothetical haul.
With their first-round pick, PFF had the Broncos selecting Iowa tackle Tristan Wirfs, who may have to move to guard at the next level.
“If Denver wants to give Garrett Bolles another year to prove himself, Wirfs would be the perfect in-between lineman who can start at guard initially before eventually moving to tackle,” wrote PFF’s Mike Renner. “Ronald Leary’s $9-plus million cap hit looks like a foregone conclusion to come off the books with his injury history.”
The greatest concern with Wirfs is that his arm length with limit him to being a career guard, but that shouldn’t worry the Broncos too much. With Leary almost certainly departing, Denver has a need opposite of Dalton Risner and Wirfs projects to be a Pro Bowl-caliber guard for the next decade.
In the second round, PFF had the Broncos selecting Jalen Reagor, the lightning-quick receiver out of Texas Christian University.
“Back-to-back TCU products, as the Broncos get their speed receiver to complement Courtland Sutton,” writes Renner. “Reagor had a 1,000-plus-yard breakout year as a true sophomore in 2018 but then was really hampered by his QB situation this past season with the fourth-highest rate of uncatchable targets in the country.”
Reagor might not have the buzz around him that Henry Ruggs III has right now but they aren’t too different as prospects. Ruggs is quicker and a little more refined in some areas, but if the Broncos came away with Jalen Reagor at 46th overall, they should be beaming with joy.
Finding the ideal complement to Sutton, as well as a high-end starting offensive linemen for the next decade is about as good as the Broncos could do with their first two picks if they want to secure Drew Lock’s future success.
