Vance Joseph, head coach of the Denver Broncos, will have his plate full for the upcoming NFL season. Without a finite choice at quarterback, the first time head coach has confirmed that there will be an open competition for the position. Yet, one of the candidates is currently in the process of rehabbing a shoulder injury.
“Trevor [Siemian] is doing fine; he’s rehabbing every day in the building,” said Joseph. “He’s on track for OTAs. It’s a left-shoulder injury, so it’s not his throwing shoulder.”
Siemian started 14 games in 2016, throwing for 3,401 yards, 18 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Although he has experience on his side, he will still have to beat out 2016 first-round draft pick Paxton Lynch.
“Watching Trevor last year, I was really impressed,” Joseph said. “He’s a winner. He played with a horrific shoulder injury that most guys wouldn’t play with.“
If Siemian wins the starting job for the Broncos, after having a proper time period to rehab his shoulder, it will be interesting to see how the young player will do.
“Again, he was a first year starter, he was basically a rookie starter last year,” said Joseph. “What he accomplished was big for the football team.”
