How do you know when you’re running game has reached rock bottom? When your team decides bringing in Trent Richardson for a tryout is a reasonable option.

Now, according to both Klis and Troy Renck, the Broncos have no intentions to bring the former Alabama star onto the roster this season, but the fact that they’re even considering him for a futures contract says a lot.
Both C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman will be free agents this offseason (Anderson will be restricted), which means that the Broncos will have to decide on whether they should bring back both players, just one or none; the fact that they’re giving a guy like Richardson a chance would tend to lend itself to one of the first two.
And it’s understandable why teams like the Broncos are still trying to see if Richardson has anything left in the tank; it was just a few seasons ago that he was the No. 3 over pick, being touted as the greatest running back to enter the league since Adrian Peterson. But if he hasn’t proven that he’s a lost cause by now, I don’t know how he ever will.
If you want to know how bad it’s gotten for Richardson, he was one of the Oakland Raiders first cuts this the offseason; he didn’t even make it to their final preseason game.
There have been a lot of draft busts in our time, but Richardson may truly go down as the greatest in recent memory. If someone is going to take another shot on him, it shouldn’t be the Broncos.
