The Colorado Rockies (72-62) announced the team’s September call-ups Saturday afternoon. The club added five players to the big league roster, recalling two pitchers and three position players.
Right-handed pitcher Yency Almonte and left-handed pitcher Harrison Musgrave have each rejoined the team. In seven appearances with the big league club in 2018, Almonte has a 1.00 ERA in nine innings. In 33.2 innings this season, Musgrave (1-3) has a 5.08 ERA and has given up 27 hits.
Along with the pitchers, catcher Tom Murphy, utility infielder Pat Valaika and outfieler Noel Cuevas will all rejoin the Rockies as well. All three have had multiple stints on the big league roster over the last few seasons.
In 31 games in 2018, Murphy has two home runs, 11 RBI and a .227 batting average. Valaika has been with the Rockies for 57 games this year and is currently hitting .150 in what has been a difficult season for “Patty Barrels”. Cuevas has 136 at-bats in 63 games on the big league roster. The 6-foot-2 outfielder has a .243 batting average with 33 hits and two RBI.
Additionally, the Rockies announced catcher Drew Butera will be active for tonight’s game against the Padres and will wear No. 16.
The Rockies and Padres will play the third game in a four-game series Saturday night in San Diego. Jon Gray is slated to take the mound for Colorado and Robbie Erlin will be on the hill for San Diego. First pitch is 6:40 p.m. MT at Petco Park.
