The Colorado Rockies got one step closer to their goal of making the postseason Friday night. A 9-1 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped Colorado’s magic number to one to punch their ticket to the playoffs.
A win in their next two games or a Brewers loss would solidify the Rockies’ first trip to the postseason in eight years.
Colorado was anxious to take care of business on their end Friday. From the moment the ballpark was opened to the media, the vibe around the club was that of a team motivated win at all costs. Using that drive, Colorado jumped out in front 3-0 in the first inning and never took their foot off the gas.
A Nolan Arenado solo home run and Mark Reynolds two-run bomb put Colorado ahead and set the tone for the night. From that moment on, the Rockies would go on to dominate in all facets of the game.
Trevor Story stayed hot at the plate, ending just a double shy of completing the cycle. Story has been on fire recently, with six hits and nine RBIs in his last three games.

The Rockies and Dodgers square off tomorrow night at 6:10 p.m. MDT. The Brewers will take on the St. Louis Cardinals tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for 3:15 pm CDT, meaning the Rockies could clinch before their game starts if the Brewers lose.
