With a pivotal four-game series against a division foe in their sights, the Colorado Rockies announced the loss of Charlie Blackmon to the 10-day injured list Monday, retroactive to May 24th.

The stint away from the club stems from a right calf strain that arose for Blackmon in the club’s final game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. After fouling a pitch off of his leg, the outfielder aggravated the ailment in the following two innings in the field.

While the injury is not expected to keep Blackmon out longer than the requisite 10 days, the rehab process forced the hand of the club.

“Charlie (Blackmon) went through the paces yesterday and the medical staff and Charlie felt as though he was probably going to be a few more days from really being confident in the calf,” Black said.

Blackmon will be making his fourth career stint on the injured list and his first since 2016. Before his departure, the team’s leadoff man hit .300 (60-for-200) with 13 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 31 RBI’s across 46 games this season.

Across the National League, his five triples are the top mark, while his 28 extra-base hits rank sixth. Before his departure, Blackmon was also able to extend an 18-game on-base streak that is also the longest active streak in the NL.

In Blackmon’s stead, the club called up Yonathan Daza from Triple-A Albuquerque. The promotion is the third of the year for Daza who went 0-for-11 across three games in his earlier pair of stints.

For the Isotopes, Daza hit .366 (63-for-172) with 15 doubles, five home runs and 20 RBI’s. His average leads the Pacific Coast League. He will hit eighth and man center field in his first game with the club after his latest call-up.

Absent from Monday’s lineup was Trevor Story who is merely undergoing a scheduled off-day. Brendan Rodgers received the nod in his absence.

The Rockies also reinstated Noel Cuevas from the 10-day injured list after he was sidelined with a strained left quad on April 16th. He was optioned to Albuquerque.
