The Colorado Rockies teed off on the Cincinnati Reds pitching staff, paving the way to a blowout victory in the second game of a four-game series.
Coming into the night, the Reds owned the league lead for the highest ERA in the sport, and the number went up Tuesday night.
The Rox hit seven homeruns in the victory, tied for most in club history.
The last time they hit seven bombs was against the Montreal Expos’s back on April 5, 1997.
They have hit six or more homeruns in a single game seven times in the club’s history.
Charlie Balckmon (2), DJ LeMahieu, Carlos Gonzalez, Nolan Arenado (2) and Gerardo Parra were the five that accomplished the feat.
Walt Weiss was pleased with the way his club swung the bats.
“You don’t get many of those types of games,” said Weiss. “You enjoy them while you can.”
As for the players? They were happy, too.
“We hit seven homeruns as a team tonight?” said Charlie Blackmon who had two of his own. “That’s a lot of homers!”
“We took advantage today; we scored a lot of runs early,” said Carlos Gonzalez. “Been in a lot of games where we have scored a lot of runs, but today was impressive.”
Hopefully, the Rox can keep the bats going as they still have two games to play against the Reds.
