The Denver Broncos kick off training camp on Thursday, but the rookies have been hanging around for a few days. The media spoke with rookie wide receiver Carlos Henderson on Monday, who made it clear that he will take on any role the team has in mind for him.
Henderson, like any rookie in the league, wants to make an impact right away. When asked about how he can do that, the wideout cited reliability and learning from the veterans.
“I think the key is just being a reliable guy. Just being in each spot at the right time, running the correct depth in the routes, doing everything the coach asks you to do and just being consistent. Being consistent, that’s what makes you get on the field,” the third-round pick from Louisiana Tech said. “[I see] How hard [Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders] work. They work nonstop and their work effort is nonstop and I’ll learn from those guys. I’m picking up habits from those guys to get me better to put me in a better situation to help the team in the best way I can.”
The wide receiver’s name has been mentioned all over the field, everywhere from slot to kick return to making plays out of the backfield. Henderson showed a willingness to do whatever the coaching staff asks him to do.
“I have no idea what they have in store for me. They haven’t told me yet, but I’m just here every day learning the plays and doing what I have to do to put myself in a good position to go help the team and make plays for the team,” Henderson explained. “I have no idea what they have in store for me. They haven’t told me yet but I’m just here every day learning the plays and doing what I have to do to put myself in a good position to go help the team and make plays for the team…I do feel I can help the team as a kick returner.”
Although Henderson doesn’t have his role set in stone, he is ready to focus on his business when training camp starts. The rookie wide receiver is ready to work no matter where the coaching staff wants him to play.
