There have been a variety of small moves the Denver Nuggets have been making on the edges of the roster over the weekend.

These aren’t the moves that make the fans go “wow” or “that’s awesome” though. These are the rumors that Denver Nuggets diehards hear about and want to know more. So, here you go. The rumors that the hardcore fans want to see:

Trey Alexander and PJ Hall will not be returning to Nuggets

The Nuggets have been remaking their two-way roster spot situation ahead of free agency, making decisions about players that didn’t see the floor often.

Trey Alexander and PJ Hall played 117 and 66 total minutes respectively in the 2024-25 NBA season, spending most of their time in the G League. The Nuggets didn’t call upon either player often, and it looks like neither will be returning to the roster next season.

According to Vinny Benedetto of the Denver Gazette, the Nuggets aren’t retaining Alexander despite an impressive G League season that won him Rookie of the Year.

Spencer Jones given Two-Way Qualifying Offer

According to Keith Smith of Spotrac, the Nuggets took the first step in retaining forward Spencer Jones.

Either way, the Nuggets will likely retain Jones on a second two-way contract unless another team extends him an offer to be on their full-time roster. Jones would give the Nuggets some wing-depth if they committed to utilizing him throughout the regular season.

The Nuggets already added Missouri 3&D guard Tamar Bates on a two-way immediately after the NBA Draft last week, so the depth is starting to take shape.

Nuggets interested in Mavericks’ Jared Dudley, JJ Barea for coaching staff

We haven’t heard a ton of assistant coaching news around the Nuggets ever since Chris Haynes reported that assistants Ryan Saunders, Popeye Jones, Charles Klask, and player development coach Stephen Graham would not be retained for next year.

The Nuggets did retain assistants John Beckett, Ryan Bowen, Ognjen Stojakovic, and Elvis Valcarcel to my knowledge, as well as a variety of additional team personnel.

Over the weekend, Marc Stein of The Stein Line Substack reported that the Nuggets were exploring hiring both Jared Dudley and JJ Barea away from the Dallas Mavericks’ coaching staff. He then subsequently confirmed that the Nuggets had secured an interview with Dudley, who has interest around the league from a few teams to join their coaching staff.

Barea was also subsequently mentioned. His experience on a coaching staff is a little more tenuous to my knowledge, but he’s also well regarded around the league and would bring some creativity to the table.
