Hopefully you’ve avoided the fake can of peanut brittle and haven’t smoked any exploding cigars (or other products legal in Colorado) on this April Fool’s Day. And we really hope you haven’t been duped by any of the bogus sports stories circulating on this day of clowning around – especially stories about our beloved Denver Broncos.
We’re sure a quick glance at Wikipedia would explain April Fool’s Day, but it’s a Friday and we’re not really inclined to get into researching the history and meaning behind this day of pranks.
Mile High Sports has rolled out its own fair share of gags over the years. Perhaps the most famous was our stunt a few years back when we announced a “Hall of Famer” was joining our Afternoon Drive show, which we announced on Opening Day (and also happened to be April 1).
This year, several Denver-oriented publications have tried to pull the wool over Broncos fans’ eyes this April Fool’s Day with outlandish stories to trick the gullible.
Our favorite was this bit from the folks at predominantlyorange.com…
#Jaguars, #Bears to wear commemorative #Broncos patch for 2016 season. https://t.co/dhPfZ5IJKW pic.twitter.com/eHJHV9jVYY

Given that so many Broncos have defected to Jacksonville and Chicago, playing for former offensive coordinator Adam Gase and head coach John Fox respectively, it would seem only fitting that they would don commemorative patches honoring the Denver Broncos.
Well played, PO.
One news story that popped up today that had folks wondering if it was a joke came courtesy of KCNC, the CBS affiliate in Denver.
Marijuana Dispensary Seeks Naming Rights For Mile High Stadium https://t.co/7CGF76mIgi pic.twitter.com/8JL42NIYtv

Turns out this is NO JOKE, according to CBS 4.
I repeat! This is NOT a joke.
Native Roots says they really do want to put their name on the side of Mile High Stadium.
We’ve been to enough games since legalization to know that marijuana is quite prevalent at the stadium, but it’s unlikely the NFL – in which marijuana is a banned substance – would ever consider letting a dispensary slap its logo (and giant pot leaf) on the side of one of its stadiums. That’s no joking matter to commissioner Roger Goodell.
It’s a good thought, but one that will go up in smoke, without a doubt.
The worst has to go to IMFROMDENVER.com and DailySnark.com who collaborated on this sad effort to suggest that the Broncos had signed embattled former Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel.
Normally we’re fans of IFD and the Snark, but this post reeked of being an “April Fool” from the first post and didn’t have that usual creative bite we’ve come to expect from them.
They weren’t the only ones trying to get crazy QB rumors flying this April Fool’s Day. NewsBake floated this doozy out there…
BREAKING: The Dallas Cowboys Just Signed Tim Tebow! – NewsBake WOW https://t.co/BjordtDsII

Okay, that one might take the cake – pardon the baking pun – for worst.
One of the best of all-time has to go to the Colorado Rapids, who two years ago got the entire team involved in the gag that they’d be donning the infamous Colorado Caribou uniforms for a game during the 2014 season.
They even convinced a few players to rock the tassels of the ‘Bou for a staged PR shot.
Classic.
We were pretty proud of our effort, too, though. That Hall of Famer who was joining the Mile High Sports lineup? It’s was Denver Nuggets Super Mascot Rocky.
Needless to say, Rocky, who does not talk, was fired almost immediately.
But he did help spread some good PR for our partners at the Denver Nuggets, whose playoff tickets just happened to go on sale that same day.
Happy Fooling!
