The Broncos offense showed what they can be capable of on Sunday

After the loss to Kansas City on Sunday night, it’s easy to look back and scrutinize the defense for their play in the fourth quarter or Gary Kubiak for his decision to go for a 62-yard game-winning field goal in overtime, but it wasn’t all bad. There were some positives to take out of that game.

In particular, the Broncos offense seemed to break out of its shell for the first time all season in the second half.

Trevor Siemian threw for 368 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, and he did it against a defense that was playing at its best. Both fans and teammates couldn’t help but be impressed.

“The way Trevor played tonight, especially in the second half, is what this offense and what this team needs,” Jordan Taylor told Eric Goodman and Les Shapiro of Afternoon Drive on Mile High Sports AM 1340 | FM 104.7. “We were able to move the ball, we were able to run and take shots down the field. We just came up one touchdown, one field goal too short. Obviously, we want to have that back and it’s a tough loss.”

While Taylor has only seen limited action this season, he’s been effective, converting two of his eight receptions into touchdowns. He, though, has proven to have a strong connection with Siemian ever since the preseason.

On Sunday, the offense was actually the unit that kept the Broncos in the game, while the special teams and defense allowed the game to slip away in the end. If they can get all three phases clicking at the same time, there’s plenty of room for optimism.

“They’re upset, for sure, just because of how good they are and how well they always perform,” Taylor said of the defense and special teams. “It’s definitely not on them. That punt we gave up after the safety, that was bam bam, two consecutive plays where we’re down 9-0. That didn’t have anything to do with our defense. It’s a team effort and obviously the offense is going to hang their hat on being able to move the ball in the second half, and we’ll try to continue that trend. We’ve got to be able to do it for a full four quarters and be able to do it in the first half as well.”
