Colorado Rockies shortstop Trevor Story belted his 24th home run of the year in Friday’s win, matching a rookie record.
Story’s two-run home run in the sixth inning tied him with former Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki for the most home runs hit by a National League rookie shortstop in a season.

Tulo was a mentor to Story when they were both in the organization at the same time. When Tulo departed and Jose Reyes was suspended, the organization called upon Story to fill a big void in the middle of the infield, and he has done that and more.
This accolade just adds to the list the 23-year-old has accomplished in his first season in the show.
Story is now sixth on the home run leaders list for this season and now has his sights set on the overall NL rookie record. Wally Berger and Hall of Famer Frank Robinson hold the National League record with 38 home runs.
To set the overall record Story will have to more than double his current total. In 1987 Mark McGwire hammered 49 home runs en route to a Rookie of the Year award.
Story faces stiff competition in that race from a pair other rookie shortstops, Aledmys Diaz (St. Louis) and Corey Seager (L.A. Dodgers). Neither have the home run numbers that Story is putting up, but both are hitting above .300 heading into the final games of the weekend.
