A week after grabbing a third-place finish in Charlotte, Martin Truex Jr. came in 15th in the Hollywood Casino 400 at Kansas Speedway yesterday afternoon.
Truex was the recipient of a pass-through penalty when a tire from his No. 78 car rolled outside his team’s pit box. As a result, Truex lost a lap and fell to 25th, before eventually climbing back into 15th place to finish the race.
Truex is now in danger of falling out of the group of title-eligible drivers in the Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. At eighth place overall, Truex is right at the cutoff. The top-eight drivers will advance to the Eliminator Round.
The final race of this round, the Campingworld.com 500, will take place this Sunday at the always-unpredictable Talladega Superspeedway.
Through Truex’s 16 races at Talladega, he’s made one top-5 finish.
