Von Miller‘s performance against the New England Patriots on Sunday earned him a new position on Wikipedia. One more display like that and he may be adding not one but two pieces of hardware to his trophy case: A Lombardi Trophy and a Super Bowl MVP.
Ryan Van Bibber of SB Nation joined Mike Luper and Sean Walsh on The Sports Guy Mike Show on Mile High Sports AM 1340 to discuss how the Broncos match up with the NFC champion Carolina Panthers.
Bibber wasted no time in highlighting Miller’s importance to the Denver Broncos, while playfully suggesting Miller’s pelvis is the true MVP.
“He’s probably the best player on the field for the Broncos,” said Bibber. “That really says something with how loaded the Broncos are on both sides of the ball.”
Miller was the catalyst for the Broncos victory over the Patriots in the AFC Championship on Sunday. He sacked quarterback Tom Brady 2.5 times and intercepted a pass, all while creating headaches for New England’s offensive line. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say Miller is the reason Dave DeGuglielmo is looking for a new job.
Miller is no doubt chomping at the bit to play in his first Super Bowl, as he was sidelined in 2013 with a torn ACL. Luper believes Miller has the potential to be a not just a difference maker, but maybe the game’s Most Valuable Player
“If he has a game like the AFC Championship, or excels beyond that, he could be the MVP of the Super Bowl,” said Luper.
“Its not easy to stop or contain Cam Newton,” Bibber continued, “but I think Von Miller is a guy that can do that.”
Miller and the rest of the defense must find ways to contain Newton, who has four passing touchdowns and another on the ground this postseason. Keeping Newton in check will be a major key in delivering Denver its third Super Bowl crown.
“You saw the best of the Denver defense [on Sunday] and that really could be the difference maker in the Super Bowl,” Bibber concluded. “Miller has the speed to get after Newton and make his life very difficult.”
