It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise, but on Wednesday morning, Von Miller was named the AFC Defensive Player of the Week.
In a 34-20 victory over the Indianapolis Colts, Miller was a man possessed, sacking Colts quarterback Andrew Luck three times, forcing the game-clinching fumble and making seven total tackles. This is Miller’s third time being named as the AFC Defensive Player of the Week and his first since 2012, which ties him with Karl Mecklenburg for most in franchise history.
Historically, it was a great day for Miller, too. With those three sacks, Von recorded the 70th sack of his career, which puts him on a historic pace.
Fastest to 70 sacks, NFL history (reg season & playoffs):
1. Reggie White (57 GP)
2. J.J. Watt (76)
3. @Millerlite40 & Richard Dent (81)— Patrick Smyth (@psmyth12) September 21, 2016
Right now, Von Miller has never played better. He’s channeling his 2016 playoff run and turning into the norm. If he continues to play like he did on Sunday, there will be plenty more of these awards in his future.
