All signs point to Trevor Siemian starting in the Thursday Night Football matchup between the Denver Broncos and San Diego Chargers, despite Siemian still recovering from a sprained AC joint in his left shoulder. Even with the injury, Chris Burke of Sports Illustrated still thinks Siemian is the right choice to start over rookie Paxton Lynch.
“As long as he can throw with the other shoulder,” Burke told 120 Sports, “I think that that’s the big key. Because we saw last week Lynch has a chance to be a really good quarterback in time, but unlike a Carson Wentz or Dak Prescott, who have stepped in a played well right away, we saw Paxton Lynch go through some of those rookie moments where he didn’t look comfortable. He didn’t read the defense that well, kind of panicked in the pocket – all those things you worry about with a rookie in there.”
Burke also noted the absence of Gary Kubiak, out with medical issues surrounding a severe migraine condition, in the play calling and the ongoing struggles of the run game over the past three weeks. Burke was quick to note, however, how strong Siemian looked before the injury, “throwing for four touchdowns in Cincinnati and starting off hot against Tampa Bay.”
