Colorado Rapids defender Kortne Ford will no doubt remember 2017. Fresh off a trip to the College Cup with the Denver Pioneers to end 2016, Ford joined hometown Rapids on a Homegrown player deal in January. He fulfilled a lifelong dream and made his first appearance with the club on April 9, becoming the first Rapids Homegrown player to earn a spot in the Starting XI on their professional debut. All the while, Ford’s mother, Laurie, has been battling stage four breast cancer.
Ahead of Colorado’s home match on Saturday, Ford took to the team’s YouTube channel to share a touching, intimate letter to his mother. Laurie raised Ford as a single mom, and did all she could to support her son’s soccer dream. Now that his dream has come true, he’s doing everything in his power to support her through her toughest time. Give the video a watch and share it with any mom in your life, or anyone you know who needs a lift. It’s a moving tribute that is sure to motivate.
