Even though he plays on the defensive side of the ball, Von Miller knows a thing or two about quarterback play. Maybe it’s because he spends so much time getting to know them on the field. He is, after all, the NFL leader in sacks at the moment. He also had the pleasure of playing the last four years of his career with Peyton Manning, arguably the greatest QB to every play the game. Miller made a special appearance on “The Rally” from 120 Sports yesterday and offered his thoughts (among many others) on the quarterback currently leading the Denver Broncos, Trevor Siemian – comparing him to the sure-fire Hall of Famer, Manning.
“He just has this vibe – this Manning-like vibe about him,” Miller said of Siemian. “I think that the time he sat behind Peyton he really picked up on a lot of things on and off the football field. He’s comfortable to be in the locker room. He’s a great guy to be around, and it shows on the football field.”
Miller spoke with “The Rally” as part of his Old Spice promotional tour.
When asked if he felt any burden or responsibility as the leader of the defense to step up their play because of a new quarterback, Miller said the Broncos do a good job of compartmentalizing things and focusing on their individual responsibilities.
“We do a great job on the defensive side of the ball,” Miller said. “We just focus on our roles and it works out for us.”
Miller also took questions about the NFL concussion protocol, specifically the opener with Carolina and whether Cam Newton should have stayed in the game.
The Super Bowl MVP took a lighthearted approach to his answer, joking that “if I hit them, I think they should come out of the game.”
The Broncos are 2-0 in Siemian’s first two starts but face a big test on Sunday against Andy Dalton and the Bengals in Cincinnati.
“Andy, he’s my guy,” Miller said about Dalton. “He gave me my first sack in the National Football League so we have a special relationship.”
If all goes as planned, things will be even more special between Miller and Dalton after that game and fans will see some “Manning-like” play from Siemian that leads to another Broncos win.
