The Colorado Buffaloes have won just seven games over the span of the past three years, including just two last year in head coach Mike MacIntyre’s sophomore season in Boulder, but Irv Brown and Joe Williams, longtime sports talk radio hosts in Denver say this could be a turnaround year for the Buffs.
Could they make a run at a bowl game? Unlikely, according to Brown and Williams. Not only would the Buffs have to win seven games, playing a 13-game schedule this year, they play in one of the toughest divisions in college football, if not the toughest.
Six of Colorado’s first seven conference matchups are against teams ranked in the top-25 in the preseason AP Coaches Poll – Oregon (7) on Oct. 3, at Arizona State (15) on Oct. 10, Arizona (22) on Oct. 17, at UCLA (13) on Oct. 31, Stanford (21) on Nov. 7 and USC (8) on Nov. 13.
Longtime Irv and Joe caller Mark in Aurora says the Buffs ought to be happy with four wins on the year, pointing to winnable early-season games against Hawaii, UMass and Nicholls State, plus a conference win over Oregon State or Washington State. But Irv and Joe think the Buffs could find a way to squeeze six wins out of this schedule, which also includes Colorado State and Utah.
