One of Coach MacIntyre’s motto’s for the year is “Welcome to the fight,” and based on the opening blowout against in-state rival Colorado State and the home opener in Boulder against Idaho State, which ended 56-7, we can see who has come out swinging.
So far it has been a one sided fight for the Buffaloes and it’s a refreshing feeling for those in Boulder as it’s been awhile since there has been this much excitement in the atmosphere.
MacIntyre spoke at the half and had this to say about his team’s first half performance:
“Yeah, we’re playing okay. We got the ball in the end-zone there, and we gave up a couple third downs we shouldn’t have.”
You’d believe that this was a close game at the time of the quote; it was not. That’s just how focused MacIntyre and the Buffaloes are this year — not much room for error.
The Colorado Buffaloes were favored big in the game as the spread was 41.5 points. Not only did they accomplish that, but they were up 49-0 by the half, which set them up to be in control the entire game.
Phillip Lindsay led the way early as he found the end zone twice before the half. He looks to be a standout running back in the Pac 12, as he now has four touchdowns in two games.
Colorado’s first touchdown was through the air on a 15-yard pass to Devin Ross from Sefo Liufau. Ross finished with 3 catches for 27 yards.
Sefo Liufau was on the sideline by halftime but played well before handing over the job to back up Steven Montez. Liufau finished with three touchdowns, including a 19-yard touchdown scramble. He went an effective 15 for 18 with 204 yards passing. He also led the team in rushing before the half with 54 yards.
Back Up quarterback Steven Montez took over before third string QB Jordan Gehrke took over. Montez finished 6 of 17 for 117 yards. He had two touchdowns to Kabion Ento. Ento led the Buffs in receiving with two catches for 88 yards.
The Buffaloes next game is September 17 in Ann Arbor as they face off, against Jim Harbaugh and No.5 Michigan.
When Coach MacIntyre spoke on the keys to beat Michigan he stated:
“Just be Colorado. Just keep being ourselves and playing as hard as we can, and if we do that, then we can take care of things like we can.”
Good luck fellas, the real test begins.
