For the Rockies to pull off the road upset today, Hughes has to maintain his homer-less streak and navigate San Diego’s hot bats efficiently enough to preserve the bullpen. Offensively, Colorado must exploit Canning’s vulnerability to the long ball. If the Rockies’ hitters can put crooked numbers on the board early, force Canning into an early exit, and avoid leaning on a relief corps that carries a 5.03 ERA over its recent stretch, they can steal this game.

Instead of sweating out a side and hoping Colorado plays a clean nine innings, attacking the total is the sharpest angle on the board.
San Diego’s Griffin Canning is struggling mightily right now, surrendering runs and long balls at a concerning rate.
