With all the noted culture changes for Colorado State Rams men’s basketball, one more positive note can be added; these coaches can recruit.

We’ve already been seeing the new freshmen performing like seasoned veterans; Kendle Moore led CSU with 26 points on Wednesday while Adam Thistlewood added 10 points and five rebounds of his own in the season-opener.

Now, Niko Medved’s team has landed the commitment of a fourth player in their 2019 class, in three-star forward David Roddy.

Roddy, who was mainly recruited by assistant coach Dave Thorson, picked Colorado State over his native Minnesota and Northwestern. According to Ryan James, Roddy is a Top 200 prospect nationally for Prep Hoops, coming in at No. 199. He’s a 6’4″ 250-pound small forward who was a two-sport star at Breck School, as a pro style quarterback for the football team.

As a junior, in 2017-18, Roddy averaged 25.4 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, including a career-high 49-point effort in a 81-79 victory in late December, 2017.

Colorado State is a team which has been guard-heavy for many, many years. That’s the reality again in 2018-19 as senior forward Deion James has decided to redshirt, leaving CSU with true center Nico Carvacho surrounded by small forward and freshman Thistlewood, sophomore Logan Ryan and redshirt junior Zo Tyson. The latter two will likely not play much this year, but roles are still being defined, one game into the season.

To help add size, Colorado State’s class of 2019 includes Roddy and fellow forwards James Moors as well as Jihaun Westbrook. They also have the commitment of guard Isaiah Stevens to round out their four-player class to this point.

Clearly, head coach Niko Medved was pumped with the commitment.

Today, Colorado State hosts Arkansas Pine Bluff in their second game of the season, the first against a DI opponent. That game tips off at 2 p.m. MST at Moby Arena.
