CSU fans have a lot to be excited about over the next few years.
A new 41,200-seat stadium, which the school is spending $220 million to build, will be ready by 2017. It will be the first time there will be a football stadium on CSU’s campus.
But this season, it’s the offensive line that Rams fans can get most excited about. It may not have the glamour and glitz of a new stadium, but it’s what could help the Rams build on a successful 7-6 season in Mike Bobo’s first season and make a run at a fourth-consecutive bowl game.
Mike Brohard, editor for CSU football, joined Gil Whiteley on Mile High Sports Radio AM 1310 | FM 104.7 to discuss what CSU fans should expect for the 2016-17 season.
“I think there looking forward to a better season and making progress from what they got set as a base last year under Mike Bobo and the system that he brought in,” said Brohard.
“The trenches have always been pretty good. they’ve had a nice little series of offensive lineman go to the NFL,” said Brohard. “Their offensive line, to me, stacks up with four returning starters as a group that could be one of the strengths if not the strength of the offense.”
Fred Zerblis, a senior offensive lineman and three-year starter, is looked at by many as a first-team pick and Jake Bennett, a local kid, is in contention for the Remington Trophy for most outstanding center, according to Brohard.
It’s a unit that has produced several NFL players over the past few years, including current Broncos guard Ty Sambrailo.
Nick Stevens the redshirt sophomore quarterback is ready to lead CSU to another bowl game after a strong 2015 season throwing for 2,679 yards and 21 touchdowns to only 12 interceptions. He can rest assured he’ll have good protection again this season and build upon that success.
Listen to the full discussion with Brohard, including the unique story of former Ram Cameron Moss, who is currently part of the team building the brand new stadium in Fort Collins…
