For someone that has played offensive line for just four years, the Colorado Buffaloes’ (3-1) redshirt-junior right tackle Josh Kaiser is holding his own. His first year playing offensive line was his senior year of high school at Mission Viejo in California. Four year later, he returns home as a starting tackle for a power five program.
Kaiser has actually started at both the tackle positions this season for the Buffs. He opened the year starting at left tackle in weeks one and two due to a two game suspension served by redshirt-senior left tackle Jeromy Irwin. However, in Week 2 he was replaced after the third drive by redshirt-sophomore offensive lineman Isaac Miller.
When Irwin was finally eligible to return, Kaiser was moved to right tackle in an attempt to bolster the physicality on the offensive line. Kaiser says he’s getting more and more comfortable now with two starts under his belt on the right said but understands how much work the Buffs have left ahead of them.
CU gets set to face the UCLA Bruins (2-2) on Saturday, September 30th at 8:30 p.m. MDT in their first true road game of the season. The Buffs are coming off a 37-10 loss in the rematch of the 2016 Pac-12 Championship at the hands of the (#6/#6) Washington Huskies. Despite lofty expectations, Colorado’s offense currently ranks 11th in the conference averaging just 26.2 points per game. This could be the perfect chance for the Buffs’ offense to breakout as the Bruins maintain one of the league’s worst defenses, allowing 43.2 points per game.
